I will cover our stay in Chianti / Poggibonsi in this to make up for some lost time. Feel free to leave some comments or ‘like’ our travelpod blog,.. here it goes… Today we head out to Poggibonsi, where? Yes Poggibonsi. This is a place somewhere between Florence and Siena in the middle of the Chianti area. We got ourselves a sort of ‘farm house’ in the countryside for a couple of days in a place called ‘Antico Brogo San Lorenzo’. So we check out of our hotel and say goodbye to beautiful Florence. We drag our luggage along the streets for 10 minutes to reach the car rental agency. Here we pick up our little car for the next days. We were given a Lancia Muevo, a little and utterly ugly styled car. But it brings us to where we have to go, and it had a little diesel engine, so it could probably drive us up and down Italy without refueling. Not that that is the plan, as Poggibionsi is only an hour out of Florence. It took us a bit to find the place as we had to drive on some unpaved roads and the address was not in the GPS. And, as an added bonus, Canadian Airline’s Airbus 320’s allow you to fold up the armrest across the exit row seats (unlike Air Canada) so I could actually stretch out and grab some needed shut-eye. I arrived in Halifax at somewhere south of midnight, due to some delays in getting the aircraft into Toronto. After getting turned around inside their airport (which is decidedly small, so I “found” myself pretty soon!), I caught an airport taxi to my hotel. Abdul, my driver, kept trying to engage me in conversation during the 15 minutes trip. I kept trying to fall asleep. However, between his well-meaning chatter and the fact that that he had the Lincoln Town Car going over 150 KM/H (yes…you read it right…it had a HUGE digital dashboard readout!), I didn’t get much shut-eye in the cab. Now, I enjoy going fast in a car as much as any other red-blooded male (and most females I know, too), however I prefer to be IN CONTROL rather than tossed around in the back seat!
